Ghosts & Goblins

Yesterday was the celebration of all's hollow eve for chinese believers. Every religion has their own version of ghosts and goblins of their own. But do they all refer to the same thing but different names?

Since this is the time of the year for spooks, for buddhist believers that is, so i guess i would start off with what is commonly known today as baby ghost (kwai chai). Rumours has it that some medium are willing to pay a hefty sum for those unborn dead child, or bodies of those babies died at an early age usually before the first year. These babies would then be brought to a medium and a ceremony would be held to call the spirit of the dead baby into our world and only the master/owner and also 'gifted' people.

Depending on the nature of the master, they can command the 'ghost' to do their bidding, be it for good or bad as long as the master takes care of it as their own child. The master would have to feed it, bring them along to whereever they go. So if you see people acting strange like opening car door when nobody is there or getting out of a taxi leaving the door ajar for a few moments, think again.

Lately there's stories going around about people using these ghosts to bewitch innocent bystanders into giving up their personal belongings and also to tell where they had kept their cash. They will pretend to be lost or asking for direction. As soon as the kind samaritian say a word, they have been spellbounded. If there is cash at home, then they will head on back to the house and relieve the victim of whatever cash there is. After the 'transaction' is done, the culprit will give a bag of tidbit (usually sweets) in return for the cash, and they will make their exit. After about 5-10 minutes, the victim will awaken and will now remember the whole ordeal.

Fact or fiction?
You be the judge...

PS: Tell tale sign of people keeping baby ghosts.
  • They do not have any children in the house but has a lot of toys and baby peripheral.
  • Couples with kids who rent rooms out to other couples. If your child always cry when you give them milk/feed them thru the bottle, and after sometime you still see your child is malnurish, and that the other couple has baby peripherals and yet no kids, chances are that the ghost are fighting with your baby for the food which obvioulsy the ghost will prevail. In order not to offend it, please evict them out for your baby's safety in a good manner.
  • When you see people getting out of vehicles, and then going to the passenger side and open the door, then pretending to take things out of their pocket/thinking about something, and close the door after that.

Banks Trying to ROB the Elderly

I've just received a letter from a local Malaysian bank stating that they'll be charging RM5.00 per MONTH not year for the public who wish to keep their bank book. The alternative to that is the monthly statement which will then use the Bankcard for ATM withdrawal, or Bankcard and New IC card for over the counter withdrawal.

Let's think of today's society. How often does one loses their wallet compared to losing a bank book? I'm not sure of the exact procedure for the over the counter withdrawal as the letter didn't state anything of it. So now the thief would be much much richer compared to the old times. When we get robbed, the thieves would force us to go to the ATM and withdraw our money. Max limit would be like RM 1000.00

Now.. they can have your whole savings!!!! (unconfirmed)

Wow, think about that... What's the difference of the monthly statement compared to the bank book? Lots of elderly people are so used to the bank book and the bank are imposing these charges. Why?

Lots of personal documents are being sent by mail these modern times, thus maximizing the chances of documents lost in the mail, unsent, unreceived. Most surprising is that the notice of the changes came thru unregistered mail (normal mail). In it is the reply slip for the above said switch. Imagine that you didn't receive the notice and the effective date was end of the month. The bank would start to charge us. It that fair?
