Invasion of Privacy

I haven't gone to the cinema for a long period of time due to my buzy schedule. Nothing seem to changed much. Always the ever long queue to the ticketing booth, the refreshments counter, and oh yes, the rush of people entering the cinema when the theather is open for admission.

But hold on a minute, something seems to have changed here. They are doing a body/property inspection on patrons?!? This is new. I wonder what are they searching for? Drugs? Outside food? or maybe videorecoders perhaps...

Guess what? They are now requesting patrons who carry state of the art handphones with camera to keep them at the counter! This is discrimination!!! Don't the know that they can't do that or can they? What if anthing happens to the phone or worse yet an emergency call? Who would bear the responsiblity?

Yes, their intention is good, combat cinema piracy but have they done a through thought about the impact? I've read an article about a cinema uses a frequency jammer to disable phones from ringing but was duely removed as they found themselves with a lawsuit.

Everyone heard and know about the 'stolen' video clips that has surfaced on the internet recently and has become headlines. By surrendering your phones, culprits would have a lot of time to go through personal data (assuming security has ben compromised). Your pictures, information, contacts, and data are at risk.

Paranoid Parents

How times has changed since when I was a kid. Seeing parents today compared to those from the past has really made me realise that society today has progress into a KIASU society. We Malaysian have always label our Singapore counterpart as KIASU but who are we to label people when we are also KIASU.

Now don't flame me as yet as I haven't narrow down to Malaysian KIASUness. When I was a child, I used to have so much fun playing with my peers and enjoying my childhood times. How many of you agree on this?

Look at the children today... What do you see? Are they the same vibrant and fun loving as we used to? The answer is NO. Parents today will enroll their child as young as 4 into pre-kindergarden/childcare center. Reason is that they the parents are afraid that their child can't cope up with their peers who kept comparing their child with others. Why must we compare? Don't they know that there's no 2 individuals that are alike in this world even tho they are twins!!! They may look alike but they are still different individuals with different characteristics.

Looking back to the times when we would have exams, our parents would advise us to do our best and nothing more. When results are out, of course there are rewards and punishments but to a certain extend. In the past, getting an A for a subject is suffice. Let's take a leap into the present, I saw a child who got 95/100 for a subject and yet the parents are scolding and physically abusing the child.

Children nowadays are so intelligent and smart that they have their self esteem and psychologically if you ask me, will haunt them forever. Imagine the trauma and pressure parents are putting on their children. Why? Is it because they themselves didn't do well in the past? Is it because they themselves felt that by having a straight A student will give them an edge over the rest?

To all parents out there who are reading my post, please take the time to reflect back on your past and hopefully see the difference of a fun and wonderful childhood that you've had and compared to what you're giving your children now.

Childhood is all about growing, having fun, sharing and learning which also should be fun!!!
