Shopper's Safety

How many times have you thought that your shopping experience would be a bad one? Had one of those bad experience of theft or assault from other shoppers?

These cases do happen in shopping complexes, and the usual scenarion would be for a huge group of people will gather round to catch a glimpse of the incident, the all security guards will come and apprehend the culprit accompanied by the victim to the security room. There a statement about the incident will be taken by the mall guards and the customer's belongings will be returned instantly. The shopper is happy to get their property back and leave feeling content that the culprit is in custody and 'actions' will be taken.

That's the usual 'ideal' scenario that all of us think will/should happen right? What if this was not the case? How many times have you actually stayed and waited for the police to arrive? How many times have you see a police car near the vacinity of the shopping complex? Any newspaper publish these incidents? One might say the mall would like to cover up the incident thus the hush up.

What's wrong with publishing these theft/snatch incidents happening in malls? There's cases like these happening everywhere. IMHO the mall will gain better trust from the public if they know that they are capable to secure their shoppers.

I've been thru one of these before, its not a snatch incident but an assault from an unknown person. Happened in Sunway (guessed you all know which mall i'm refering to). We're at the archery lounge enjoying ourselves, and as usual there'll be ppl loitering around watching. Then there's this malay bloke went beside my friend and use her arrows and started shooting. Once, twice, three times, I got the attention of the manager and informed him of the incident. He then asked that the bloke to leave the premis. Thought the incident was over? think again. He was waiting at the entrance for us.

When we're leaving, he came and confronted us.. and things start to get physical. The staff at the archery range just stood there looking. The 3 of us then restrained him and yet the staff still standing there doing nothing. We got the manager and he contacted the mall guard. They came, we followed and give them a statement. We left thinking that they'll call the police and stuff. GUESS we were wrong.. About an hour later, to our horror, that same bloke was released by the guards and yet caused another disturbance elsewhere. This time trying to snatch a lady's purse but was caught by her partner... Yet again the mall guards was there, leading them into the same room that we've just been to.

Think you're safe with mall guards? Think again....

Worst Case Scenario

I've watched this sorta new show on Astro called Worst-case Scenario. Its a very educational show and yes its applicable to our everyday lives. Why do we have to be pro-active when it comes to our own safety? Can't we always think of a contingency plan in case something happens.

Recent examples like the fallen road due to human error. I'm sure that before this incident has happen, nobody cared about the hanging roads supported by a thick beam above busy roads. Now? I think everyone would think twice about stopping directly beneath these pillar for fear of another Human Error...

Malaysian Unite?

Malaysia is a multi-racial community. Our government always stress that we all as Malaysian should unite.

Question: In order to be united, we have to treat all Malaysian fairly right? Then how come "Bumis" get an additional 7% off buying property?

No comments on the above but just voicing out...

Within our workplace, there's bound to be a multi-racial community there. Everyone's working well with each other even though there'll be conflict of interest once a while but everyone's fine with that. Then it comes to our favourite lunch time where we all can go out and enjoy our meals... Or can't we?

If we're going out wit non-muslim, no problem... everywhere will do.. But if you're going with a muslim, then the choices are narrowed down to not only halal places but also must be operated by a muslim. Not true you say? How many times have you seen a muslim in a chinese food premis? Why do we always have to give in to our counterparts all the time? We have already taken the first step, but what have they done to create awareness? No Action Talk Only?

I beg to differ, so manbe someone could have a say on this?

Proton Savvy part II

Hi there,

Todays' the part II of the Savvy test. How tough is it? Test subject is asked to drive around town BLIND FOLDED. and you've guessed it.. Bumps and crash can be heard.... So beware of Savvy cars on the road as they might be testing how tough is the new car. Does that mean we can have a real bumper car contest on the road?

Well, the car might be named Savvy but i think the promoters need to be more Savvy...

Taxi Stands...

I was waiting for a cab in the TAXI stand. There were a whole bunch of ppl waiting around the Taxi stand and not in it.. I was curious why but I still stood my ground. A few taxi came but didn't enter the taxi stand but rather stop in front of those ppl nearest to them.

Why have a taxi stand when nobody uses it? Be it the public nor the Taxi drivers. The only time I see ppl queing up is when it starts to rain. Ended up I've waited for like 45 minutes then only an elderly cabby came in the stand bypassing those ppl that tried to stop it. What a wait.

In another separate case, I was in KLCC Maxis Centre. Obviously there's the "Jaga" there. I can see private cars stop to pickup and drop off passengers in front of the main entrance. Then a cab come by, so unwittingly I waited for the passenger to get off the cab and to get onboard. Suddenly the KLCC "Jaga" motioned the cab to move on while there's no cars waiting behind, and informed me to get a cab elsewhere. Curiously I followed his advice and just walk to the opposite side of the main entrance where the same cab that I tried to get on was waiting for me. What's the point?

Allowing private cars to pickup and drop passengers but not cabs?
Dumbfounded...

Maxis 3G

What's with all these hype about 3G services?

Well to me it seems like just a normal telephony service. I've enquired about the full 3G package details from Maxis and there's not much to boast about. Its only usable within the city centre. If you're going to be in the jungle, it varies with the coverage... If its weak, your connection will be slow and might be disconnected. (Well at least its working..)

If you're going overseas, you'll need to check with Maxis of their 3G availability with their foreign partners of the destination country. That's not the end of it, while you're there, and you're using the 3G services, you'll be additionally charged for the per kb usage just like the normal GPRS or LAN dialup..

In countries that Maxis do not have any service partners, you're on your own in terms of usage. One method was to buy a local sim card if any and get the dialup details from the vendor (which i doubt knows about it... try asking local roadside vendor that sells pre-paid sim packs).

The price for the service isn't that pleasing too..

Firstly there's the data card RM 1,599.00
Then there's a deposit of RM 100.00 [which can be waived ;) when requested]
Finally there's the RM 120.00 monthly access fee irregardless whether you're using or not.

All the above for the limited usage. Oh yeah, the above calculations are exclusive of the normal telephony charges and call rates. That is ONLY for DATA access alone.

You do the maths.

Proton Savvy, Not Advertisment Savvy

This morning while on my way to work, I've heard the radio Ad for Savvy. Its regarding the test subject, delivering a pizza order from KL to Singapore. It says that he managed to deliver the Pizza within 30 minutes. The Ad furthermore stressed that its top speed is 170km/h.

Do you detect any flaws here?
I found a few...

Everyone knows that the minimal journey from KL to SG is at least 4-5 hours, how in the world he managed to do it in 30 minutes? Stuck in traffic, tol collection, custom?

Even with a top speed of 170 km/h, our Malaysian road laws doesn't even permit us to reach that speed, so what's the point of getting the car since it cannot be fully utilized? White Elephant?
If you do manage to reach 170, you're still breaking the allowed speed limit... Implication.... Break more laws? maybe... perhaps...

Built Tough... are you going to buy a reliable car or a tough car? What's the only reason everyone buy proton/ national made cars? Cost right... if we're going for tough cars, i'm sure that if we do a survey, my guess is that only a handful might think of PROTON....

What's the point of the AD then since everything in the AD is rather hard to imagine/acheive.

Interesting FAQ for mobile phone users

I've just found out this little interesting fact.

I'm sure that everyone knows about Mission Impossible movies, the self-destructing mechanism, well guess what !!!! Its already in use in our everyday life. Its encorporated into the MAXIS sim card. Well according to MAXIS, link posted below, that if you INCORRECTLY enter the PUK code 3 times in a row, the SIM card will SELF-DESCTRUCT.

http://www.maxis.com.my/3G/3gExperience_CTroubleshooting.asp

read the part on
Problem 5: Modem cannot read SIM. LED flashing RED

now makes you think twice about pissing someone off if you're using a maxis sim card...
